Our bowlers seem to be rediscovering the pleasure of playing this game. Despite rain in the morning we had a good turn out on Tuesday. The rain held off and all rinks completed their games. Thursday promised to be hot and humid but still more than 30 people came to play, including Judie Ashmole whom we have not seen for a while. The clouds gathered towards tea time and about half past four we have a fierce hailstorm. The more prudent players made it back to the club house reasonably dry then stood and watched the green turn white under a layer of ice. Lots of lovely nitrogen for the grass.Our treasurer had raided the fines box and used the money to buy Easter eggs to offer as prizes on Saturday.
To add an extra element of fun we rotated positions after every six ends, giving each player a chance to play at skip, second and lead. Winners of first prize were Colin Watson, Rob Gibson and George Oldham. A pair, Shelagh Bowness and Dave Garrard won the second lot of chocolate eggs. Vince Seale received a special Easter treat for scoring nine touchers. Losers by the smallest margin were Jean and John Pluke and Andy Hitchcock. Well done to the committee for its initiative. It certainly put a sparkle in the eyes of the winners.
On Friday we’ll be playing the IF Trips for very desirable meat packs, and next Friday is the Artisan’s 2-4-2.
Hilton has entered both the Sanders Trophy Interclub Tournament and the Lambert Brothers competition.
