Speaking another language empowers people. Over the past six months adult learners attended a beginners course in isiZulu.
"We don't realise how much of the language we knew but also how much there is to learn," commented one enthusiastic participant in the recent course. "I am certainly signing up for the intermediate course," said another. "These course are just what I have been looking for and I have asked my colleagues to speak to me in the language."
The next sets of course begin during the week of 16 July in Hilton. The beginners will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings and the intermediate on Tuesday and Thursdays. "It is pretty intensive but I found myself thinking in isiZulu all the time with great results. I feel more confident."
The course builds on the knowledge people already have, adds more vocabulary and structures the language for greater comprehension. The method of teaching is best suited to small groups. "I would go no larger than twelve people for optimal learning," said Bridget, a qualified second language teacher with fifteen years teaching isiZulu.
