7pm - Nicky Grieshaber

7:30 pm - Roarke Angelbright

Roarke Angelbright is a singer-songwriter from Westville. The 19-year-old solo artist puts a unique twist on his performances by using a loop station. He records backing to his songs live and on the spot. Percussion, rhythm, riffs and whatever else he needs is played, live, on one guitar, and looped to create a more full, 'band sound'. He plays a variety of unique covers and original songs. His style takes influences from folk, blues and even small elements of hip-hop in his rhythmic beats - but overall it is probably best described as acoustic rock. Roarke played in the 2014 Durban International Blues Festival, at the age of 17, as well as many other venues throughout KZN. He became a solo act in the beginning of 2016 when he began singing and looping live for the first time.

 

8pm – St John & Tanya

These two are some of our favourite musicians here in the Midlands of KZN. Tanya Nicolson leaves her heart on the stage - the utter abandon with which she delivers jazz standards, jazz not-so-standards and soulful ballad covers have left MiTH members tearful on more than one occasion. She lives and breathes every lyric. St John Haw, in his unique, quiet way, provides a perfect foil for Tanya with smooth and evocative keyboard work and a raspy vocal that is as surprising as it is visceral. Their talent is undoubted and self-evident. Their impassioned performances, however, are clearly a function of deep pools of emotion.

 

9pm - Malibongwe Mali Zulu

Mali Zulu is an Acoustic Pop/Folk trio from Pietermaritzburg. We have been together for 2 years as an independent band and close friends. We pride ourselves on our talents as we are all self-taught musicians. This makes room for a lot of creativity. We have original songs and we do covers (With a Mali Zulu twist) as well. This has caught a lot of attention and has made the brand grow much quicker.

 

Performing at some of the most prestige venues and events in South Africa like The Dutch (Umhlanga), Cafe Roux (Noordhoek), Raggies, Wolves Cafe, Pool City (PE), Zanzibar (George), Hillcrest Quarry (CPT), the Lions Festival (South Coast), Outland Festival, Ballot Pro, Zini Music Festival, The Litchi Orchard, BrewHaus and Splashy Fen.

He is working at a local music shop (Marshall Music Midlands). Bringing a very profession music aspect to the team. His skills can't be compared as he is Left-Handed but plays a Right-Handed Bass Guitar.

 

Qin - Backing Vocals/Lead Acoustic Guitar
He is currently working as a bookkeeper but cannot hold back on his passion to a musician. Coming from a church background he brings top quality to the team, he has a very tight ear for harmonies both vocal and guitar.

Skeet van Zuydam, a Grade One pupil at Laddsworth Primary School took part in the PSG Absolute Motion 10km MTB race at Hilton College on Saturday 19 May 2018.

Kendra Tongue, a Grade 5 pupil at Laddsworth Primary School, was part of the Umgungundlovu District team to take part in the regional competition which was held on Saturday, 12 May 2018 in Durban.

7:30 pm - Craig Naude

Craig is an avid musician and member of Cravan, who played at MiTH a few weeks ago. Craig will share a mixture of acoustic classics and originals.

 

8pm – The Ryno Theron Trio

Ryno Theron is a multi-instrumentalist, who focuses mainly on experimental guitar. Hailing from Durban, his first year as a solo artist was very successful, having played 40 shows, which included headlining spots and sharing the bill with some South African music legends. He also had released his debut electric album, and follow up acoustic fingerstyle EP. Ryno has extended his musical journey by forming a trio with two very talented and experienced musicians (Ashvin Laljit - bass and sax, and Ron Howse - drums). This has allowed him to explore the music which was recorded on his electric debut album, which can now be performed live as a group. Together they put on an exciting live show, comprising of Ryno's strong influences of post-rock, blues and different forms of ambient music.

 

9pm - Calico SA

Calico will rock your socks off! This is an alternative rock band born & bred in Pietermaritzburg. Their sound has an Indie influence and includes elements of Funk and Blues. They have been together since June 2017 and have supported the likes of Gangs of Ballet and Diamond Thug. Calico has headlined numerous other local gigs, played at the Harley Davidson company launch and have played venues as far as the South Coast. The band consists of @Josh Gilliver on drums, Ryan Woodgate on lead guitar and backing vocals, Dev van Rooyen on bass and Rudo Ludick on vocals and rhythm guitar.

Laddsworth Primary School is privileged to be able to access the St Anne’s College Wetland right next door.

Buyani Malinga, a Grade 6 pupil at Laddsworth Primary School has been selected to represent KZN Midlands at the KZN Trials and Rugby Tournament at Woodburn Stadium from 17 May to 19 May 2018.

We've teamed up with the talented bakers of the Treatery to bring you a mystery fudge cake that we need help naming.

 

When we approached the Treatery asking them if they would like to do a collaboration with us, we knew that the idea of our honey fudge and honey and horlicks fudge sauce featuring in one of their cakes would be tempting indeed.

 

They have come up with something quite sensational: The most light and fluffy sponge cake smothered lovingly in cream cheese frosting that perfectly balances the sweetness of dollops of honey fudge scattered through the sponge paired with hints of espresso notes that have us begging for more!

 

It really is ridiculously delicious and we would definitely recommend you head over there before the 17th of June to taste it for yourself and let us know what you think! Their cake and coffee special goes for a tempting R38!

Tarryn Plaatjes in Grade 12 at Grace College started ballet while still at pre-primary. In Grade 6 she was introduced to Spanish dancing and has been doing Spanish dancing for 6 years. This year Tarryn seized the opportunity to travel to Spain to attend courses and workshops with Flamenco professionals.

Laddsworth Pupils have been selected to represent the Umgungundlovu District hockey teams.

 

They will take part in an Inter District Trials Festival on 19 and 20 May at Hilton College, where the KZN Inland teams will be chosen.
