A St Anne's Form 6 Physical Science class visited their school laundry this week as part of a portfolio task that would investigate the implications of the newly installed heat pump drying system. Mark Duncan, Operations Manager at St Anne's, joined the team to explain in more detail the ins and outs of 'tumble dryers out and drying rooms in'. The College's central laundry facility received an upgrade over the Easter school break with a new drying room being added as part of the Green Initiatives programme at St Anne's. Seven energy hungry tumble dryers have been removed and hanging space has been created in two adjoining rooms where fan coils circulate the hot air, heated by water from a heat pump, to dry the laundry. Temperatures range between 30 - 35 degrees and dry a full room in around 4 hours. The now extinct tumble dryers used 3kw of power each, which totalled a staggering 21kW, whereas the entire new system uses only 7kw, a total power saving of over 65%.

With the beautiful April weather, Hilton bowlers have been out in full force and on Saturday we had 42 bowlers playing tabs-in. On Thursday we played for chickens generously donated by Lister and Lister and these were won by Doug Robertson, Taffy O'Neil-Williams and Arthur Dougherty.
